1986 Sea Change

“The installation uses the sea as a source to demonstrate the evolution of power structures through a series of playful and powerful pictograms. From fish to mermaid, from spear-carrying man to Bishops and Politicians, this progression is charted symbolically. The cycle is widened by introducing the issue of nuclear testing in the South Pacific and pointing to the devastating ecological effects this example of cultural imperialism has had on the indigenous inhabitants of the region.”
