2005 Women with Red Umbrellas

Group street performance. Pilot Projekt Gropiusstadt, Berlin, Germany.

During a residency at Gropiusstadt, a run-down 1960s high-rise housing development in former West Berlin, with flats designed to high standards, ample green spaces, and panoramic views, Ross noted that today it is no longer “the social utopia of its architectural ideals,” but rather “a monument to the reverses of posited histories and projected futures.” She designed an event for a group of eleven women carrying red umbrellas to explore the estate and informally discuss impressions and histories with local residents.
